DIY: re-filling eos lip balm container(and DIY lip balm)

Greetings! Sorry it's been so long since I last posted. I have been a busy bee( when am I not?! :D) I am in the middle of a huge Christmas production( performance #10, 6 more to go! http://vimeo.com/5164113 there's a link so you can check us out!) and have been running around like a madwoman. :) but back to my DIY... So I have been wanted to do this for a while and finally did it today. I have this thing for eos lip balm( I mean really, it is the coolest lip balm ever.) but it is rather pricy and I am such a DIYer, so why not refill my old eos containers with my own lip balm? I love the shape and my lips/ wallet thank me!(+ I get a cool project too!)

So here's what you need:
Empty eos lip balm
About 1 TBSP bees wax
Flat cheese grater( hallelujah for the $ store :D)
1/2 TBSP Carrier oils of your choosing I used A mix of coconut, olive, and castor
Optional: touch of honey( for sweetness) peppermint extract( for scent)
Small glass dish
Plastic wrap

I cleaned around the outside of my lip balm because it was really gross, I didn't want dirt in my new lip balm. :)

Now, line the lid with enough plastic wrap to be able to pull out the hardened balm without fuss.
Grate about 1 TBSP of beeswax into the dish.

Next, take the oils, pour them over the wax. Pop the dish into the microwave for a couple short bursts( until melted, don't burn.) then stir it with a spoon to make it consistent.
At this point you can add the honey and peppermint if using.

Then, spoon the mixture into the eos lid, quickly because it hardens fast. (also don't put to much in or the balm will not close when it is finished. About to the top of the clear plastic center of the lid.) You will have left over mixture in the glass. Put it aside.

Now gently put the lid in the freezer for around 7 min. to harden.
Pull the lid out.
Now take the leftover mix and use it like a glue to attach the top to the base. The mix should not be super hard but not liquid either. Pull the hardened balm out of the top by the plastic wrap and carefully press into the gooey base.
Put the base in the freezer for another 7 min.
Pull it out. I used a q tip with some rubbing alcohol to clean around the balm so it will shut properly.
It should look something like the pic below. :) enjoy your nifty lip balm!

Jean Vest

So, in the midst of my crazy life I got this sudden urge to sew something! And it just so happened that one thing led to another and the end result was this vest.
( a bunch of random pics of it below.)
What I started with was this dreadful long, solid jean, mental cowgirl get-up.
I had the idea I was going to turn it into a different dress (by adding a skirt with a different fabric.) but as the scissors starting lopping things off (including some lovely, shoulder pads!) and my creative juices began to flow, I decided I really liked how it looked as a vest! (I intend to put some kind of border around the bottom.)

Ok, first I removed the sleeves by cutting around the seam. And then I pinned and hemmed the raw edge.
Next I drew a line just a little under where the zipper ended in the back and cut!
I then zig-zagged around the bottom just to keep it from fraying until I can put that border on.
After, I noticed that the shoulders were pulling in a weird direction, and did what I think is called a pin tuck? I don't know. Hand sewed that in place, then called it a day! ( I forgot to take pictures along the way but I tried to put the severed pieces back together for a quick pic.... Heehee :D)

Greetings, World!

Hello, All! Welcome to my little spot on the web for all my crazy, hopeless, randomness! If you are a fan of random yourself,  your in luck! Because I just happen to busy myself with a wide array of projects. And I am going to share them with you!  I love to find neat little things to make,  be it in the category of sewing, knitting, card-making, cooking, baking, bird calls, (J.K. about the last one :D) the list truly does go on and on. Whether you are here because you love projects, or if you were reading "just because", I hope you have a fun visit! Who says life can't be a bowl of cherries, huh?! :)

-Blessings, Gadgetgirl

P.S. Just in case you missed it..... the address for this site is bowlofcherries backwards!  :D
